The upper stream of Naerhin Cheon (Lenok stream) winds
through a thick forest, with clean water and big wild trout!!! These
are the dream of flyfishermen. It is the last virgin forest in Korea.
However, several years ago, national road #56 was opened providing
easy access to the river. But the easy has a way of spoiling Mother
Nature.

The mountains are so
high that there are many forms of wildlife. Animals like Roe
deer and Eurasian small flying squirrels (natural monument #328)
are abundant. Lenok, Kumkangmochi (an endemic Mandarin fish
species of Korea), Orumchi (natural monument #259) and Swiri
(A movie that has same name was shown in Japan a couple of years
ago) can all be found in this very special place. |
| Three
routes lead to Naerhin Cheon. First, from Seoul,
take national road #6 to Youngdu
then road #44 to Kuseongpo
and then road #56 through SeoSeok to Naerhin Cheon (Changchon).
This route takes about 3 hours.
Second,
you can choose to take the highway. From Seoul take highway
#1 to Singal Interchange (I.C.), then highway #50 through
Hobop, WonJu, and Jangpyoung to the Jinbu exit. Take national
road #31 through the town 'ChangChon' and the national road
#56 to Naerhin Cheon. This takes about 3 hours.
Third, by plane: Fly into YangYang and
then drive through town 'Yangyang' and then to Naerhin Cheon.
After getting off town YangYang you can find the road sign
that indicates # 56

From YangYang to
ChangChon, it takes about
1.5 hours.On the road you pass
GalCheon, a tributary of NamdaeCheon.
GalCheon is another Cherrytrout stream.
*On the way to ChangChon you pass
the big mountains called 'Guryongryoung'.It
takes about 25minutes to NaeRhin Cheon from'Guryongryoung'.

Notice:
We Koreans value the fish Lenok.And this fish earned the place
preserved by legally in 2 regions.You musn't keep it.
The weather of this area unpredictable. It might rain suddenly
and early in the morning it gets cold even during summer. Good to
prepare wading jacket and thick Jacket.
You don't have to have a fishing license in Korea. It's not put
in force yet.
It might not be easy to find food satisfying your taste. Bring
some food for a day fishing.
In case you have a plan to fish this area for a couple of days
.You could stop at lodge.There are many lodges,clean and cheap,near
this stream .The rate is about 3-5 ManWon (25 US dollar). These
lodges are a form of private house. The owners are so kind.
